Game of thrones: Feast for crows
In Feast for crows we follow many characters but the one I enjoy the most so far is Jaime Lannister. Jaime stands vigil over Tywin's body as the last of the mourners leave the Great Sept. Ser Balon and Ser Loras remain. They implore Jaime to rest and let one of them take a watch over the body, but Jaime insists he will stand the full seven days and nights. He feels incredible guilt for releasing Tyrion and blames himself for Tywin's death. He dismisses the other two Kingsguard and thinks back to the night Tyrion escaped. He had waited in Varys's chambers for the eunuch to return and placed a dagger at his throat, threatening to kill him if he did not help. He never imagined that Tyrion would kill their father. Jaime has been looking for Varys, but he has not reappeared. He led a dozen guards into the secret passages of the Red Keep, but their search yielded nothing save darkness and dragon skulls. As he gazed at those skulls, he remembered the day Rhaegar had ridden out from King's Landing to meet Robert in battle. Jaime had pleaded with Rhaegar to go with him, but Rhaegar told him that Aerys feared Tywin more than Robert and wanted Jaime close so Tywin could not harm him. He also said that he would call a council when the battle was over, and that he had meant to do so long ago.
In this chapter we see a side of Jaime that we never see he seems responsible for his father’s murder and he feels helpless and defeated. Throughout the rest of the few chapters we start to see this side progressively more and more. We also see the rift between Jaime and Cersei after Tywin’s death. Cersei decides to show Jaime how much she cares by disagreeing with everything he says she also sends him off to river run. with a detachment of men. Jaime's command consists of Kennos, Dermot, Strongboar, Red Ronnet, as well as Ilyn Payne and Addam Marbrand, whom Jaime demanded as concessions from his sister. From this we see Jaime become very irritated saying that he’s better off in King’s Landing with the king not on the front line. In return for this Jaime responds by not showing up to defend Cersei from the faith when her and Margaery are arrested. Jaime also tries using his left hand for sword fighting he also admits to Ilyn Payne that he slept with Cersei on multiple occasions. This is a side of Jaime that we have never seen he always denied laying with Cersei but ever since Tywin’s death he has been a lot more reflective.
Jaime really starts becoming a big Kingsguard by sticking by his vows now which he should have done a long time ago as the commander of the Kingsguard. As this happens I’m really excited to see where Jaime decides to go from here.
